Local solar developer Citicore Power Inc. has unveiled its first agro-solar project, incorporating turmeric plantation with its solar farms in Luzon.
The agro-solar project pioneers the concept of a symbiotic relationship between power generation and crop production, alongside social development, the company said.
“After 10 months of strict project implementation and monitoring, we consider the AgroSolar model a resounding success for the Filipino people. The output is sufficiently high, which can be profitably sold in the market and provide a source of income to our partner farmers,” Citicore President Oliver Tan said.
Citicore is committed to helping the country achieve a healthy energy mix from solar, hydro and biomass platforms, he added.
The agro-solar model also provides opportunities for farmers to take on non-conventional crop growing methods under solar panels to generate income, Citicore said.
The company currently has 163MW in its solar power generation portfolio with projects located in other areas in Tarlac, as well as Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Negros Occidental, Cebu, and South Cotabato.
