Last month, President Duterte had appointed Karl Chua as the chief of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA). Prior to this appointment, Chua is already serving the said agency as acting director-general.
“The Palace confirms President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s appointment of Mr. Karl Kendrick Chua as the Secretary of the National Economic and Development Authority,” said presidential spokesman Harry Roque in a statement. “Secretary Chua has served the Duterte administration with professionalism, competence, and integrity as undersecretary of the Department of Finance and acting secretary of the NEDA,” he reiterated.
Roque had expressed his confidence with Chua. He said that the new chief would “continuously and consistently perform well in his present, but crucial task of jumpstarting our economic recovery.”
Chua was the finance undersecretary before being named as the acting NEDA chief last year. He substituted former socioeconomic planning secretary Ernesto Pernia, who had resigned from his position because of the “differences in development philosophy” with some Cabinet members.
