Around 4,000 guests are to attend next month’s Brit Awards ceremony as part of the government’s pilot move in easing coronavirus limitations for live events, organizers said last Thursday.
The audience in London’s O2 Arena are not required to socially distance or wear face mask or shield once seated, but they will need to present a negative test result for the virus.
Half of the earnings from this concert will go to key workers from London. This annual ceremony, which normally takes place in February, was suspended by three months because of safety and logistical concerns related to the pandemic.
Superstar singer Dua Lipa is among the artists who were to perform in this ceremony. “This has been a long, tough year for everyone and I’m delighted the night will honor the key worker heroes who have cared for us so well during that time and continue to do so,” said the Dua Lipa in an interview. “They are quite simply an inspiration. The Brit Awards are always special and this will truly make it a night to remember.”
For the first time, the best album at UK pop’s biggest annual event has four women artists nominated on a five-act shortlist. The rising singer and poet Arlo Parks, soul singer Celeste, rap duo Young T & Bugsey, and DJ and producer Joel Corry are some of the names who made it, and they have all received three total nominations across different categories.
The World Snooker Championships, which is currently taking place in Sheffield, is also part of the government move.
