Gio Marlo is a new singer-songwriter to watch out for this year. His brand of accessible pop, which has a strong built of R&B grooves and chilled soulfulness, is one the reasons why the OPM music scene is getting more interesting. Inspired by a real life heartache, his debut single “Akala” presents a strong message of how the person you were hoping to end up with can turn into someone who will be hurt you instead.
Gio, in his young age of 21 years old, is currently taking a music related course in one of the major universities in the country. His love for music started when he was in Grade 11, and from there, he had started writing his own compositions non-stop. One of his musical influences is William Singe, and that he gets his musical inspiration from William’s covers on YouTube.
His song covers on TikTok had shown the versatility and uniqueness of his voice. He can serenade his audience with his original rendition of OPM ballads from Eraserheads, Noel Cabangon, The Juans, Ben & Ben, Arthur Nery and Silent Sanctuary, and also to the international hits by Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, LANY and Justin Bieber.
His single “Akala” is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, and all digital stores worldwide under the Universal Records.
