MANILA, Philippines — OPM icon Rico Blanco is venturing into new territory as he takes on his first romantic-comedy film role in the upcoming movie Project Baby, admitting that he never imagined himself becoming a leading man on the big screen.
Blanco stars opposite Sue Ramirez in the film directed by Eric Quizon, marking a significant milestone in his entertainment career after decades of success in the music industry.

Speaking about the project, Blanco shared his disbelief at being cast in a romantic-comedy film, saying the opportunity was something he never expected to come his way. Despite his long-standing presence in the public eye, the singer-songwriter acknowledged that stepping into a lead acting role presented a fresh challenge.
The upcoming movie follows a modern-day romance that explores relationships, parenthood, and personal growth through a mix of humor and heartfelt moments. The film is produced by Regal Entertainment and forms part of the studio’s latest lineup of local romantic comedies.

Blanco also admitted experiencing moments of self-doubt while filming, revealing that he grappled with feelings of “impostor syndrome” as he adjusted to the demands of carrying a movie as its male lead. However, he credited the support of the cast and production team for helping him navigate the experience.
For fans, Project Baby offers a rare chance to see the veteran musician in a completely different light. While Blanco has previously appeared in various acting projects, this marks his first time headlining a romantic-comedy film, making the release one of the most anticipated local movie projects of the year.
Project Baby is set to bring together romance, comedy, and contemporary family themes when it premieres in Philippine cinemas, with audiences eager to witness Blanco’s transition from music legend to rom-com leading man.
