BTS’s Jin, known for his soulful voice and heartfelt lyricism, has delivered yet another masterpiece with his album “Happy.” This highly anticipated release showcases Jin’s growth as a solo artist while staying true to the emotional depth and universal appeal that fans, ARMY, have come to love.
On November 15, the eldest member of Korean Supergroup BTS, the worldwide handsome Kim Seokjin, released his very first album, titled “Happy.” Happy is a perfect adjective to describe him.
“Happy” celebrates joy, resilience, and the bittersweet moments that define happiness. Jin explores the concept of happiness not as a fleeting emotion but as a state of mind that requires effort, introspection, and self-love. Drawing inspiration from his journey and the highs and lows of life as a global superstar, the album offers a glimpse into Jin’s inner world. This tight, six-song EP finally gives fans a longer Jin listening experience while exploring universal themes like love, joy, and personal growth.
The title track, “Running Wild,” as per Billboard, the album’s electrifying centerpiece, “Running Wild” blends new wave and British rock — an unexpectedly perfect fit for Jin’s shining singing style. His vocals transition seamlessly between soothing low tones and soaring falsettos, sharing the hopeful message of running breathlessly toward joy amid chaos. With expert production and writing from Gary Barlow, the lead singer and primary songwriter for massive U.K. pop group Take That, “Running Wild” is well tailored for a fellow boy band member to share with the world.
An emotional duet with Wendy of the K-pop girl group Red Velvet, “Heart on the Window” is Happy’s only track with a featured vocalist to mark Jin’s collaborative prowess. Another new wave-inspired pop track, the collaboration exposes the excitement of racing rhythms with reflective, poignant lyrics about enduring love.
Another favorite is “I will come to you,” which says that this is Jin’s’ heartfelt letter to ARMY. The lyrics promise reunion and warmth, capturing Jin’s gratitude and longing after time spent apart from fans due to his mandatory military service.
The pre-released song, “I’ll Be There” delivers an upbeat rockabilly charm to hear again Jin’s brilliantly vibrant vocals. Just the title by itself gives the song a message of comfort, with its uplifting message speaking to generally to anyone who might isolated or alone, but also specifically to his ARMY fans: “I swear that I will always sing for you/ Sing for you, oh-oh-oh/I’ll be there for you.”
Additional tracks of the album were “Another Level”, a dive into harder rock territory, the alternative track brims with intensity to liken personal growth to leveling up in a game.
Next is Falling, a collaboration with Japan’s popular group, One Ok Rock’s Taka and Toru. “Falling” is a masterful fusion of J-pop, modern rock, and pop sensibilities. The song begins with a catchy whistle, crafted by Taka, a motif that threads throughout the track, creating an unforgettable sonic signature. Jin’s vocals are emotive and powerful, particularly in the soaring chorus, which captures the intensity of deepening love. The intricate guitar work by Toru adds texture
“Happy” is more than an EP; it’s an invitation to reflect on the meaning of joy and resilience. Fans have embraced it as a source of comfort and motivation, with many praising its relatable themes and Jin’s heartfelt delivery. The EP reinforces Jin’s reputation as an artist who wears his heart on his sleeve, creating music that feels both personal and universal.
With this album, Jin proves once again why he is beloved not just as a member of BTS but as a solo artist with a unique voice and perspective. The EP’s combination of emotional depth, uplifting melodies, and sincere lyrics makes it a timeless addition to his growing solo repertoire.
Congratulations Jin!
