In an exclusive interview with The Manila Times, three new SMFI scholars—John Misael Bacaron, Jhoanna Dungca, and Cheryl Timbancaya Villamor—shared how SMFI college scholarships have opened limitless possibilities in every aspect of their life, from personal growth to potential employment opportunities.
John Misael Bacaron emphasized the transformative power of education, expressing gratitude for the SM Scholarship, which has allowed him to pursue his dream of becoming a programmer. He highlighted that financial constraints should not hinder one’s goals and dreams, emphasizing the importance of hard work and perseverance.
Jhoanna Dungca shared her family’s financial challenges and how the SM Foundation scholarship eased the burden by covering her tuition and providing part-time job opportunities during academic breaks. She encouraged fellow students to believe in their capabilities and persevere.
Cheryl Timbancaya Villamor, an SMFI scholar alumna, reflected on her journey, where she overcame challenges and honed her abilities to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher. She emphasized the value of education and hard work in breaking the cycle of poverty.
Villamor also spoke to her fellow scholars, encouraging them to keep pursuing their goals and exploring new possibilities. She expressed her desire to give back by supporting future scholars.
The SM College Scholarship awarding ceremony is scheduled for September 2, celebrating the theme “Limitless” and highlighting the immense potential of these new SMFI scholars as they embark on their academic journeys.
