MANILA, Philippines — The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) is set to bring history closer to the public with the return of HistoEx (History to Experience) 2026, the country’s largest annual history and heritage exposition, happening from July 27 to 29, 2026, at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City.
Organized by the NHCP in partnership with Book Nook, this year’s exposition carries the theme “Across Borders and Currents,” highlighting how the Philippines’ history has been shaped by maritime connections, cultural exchanges, diplomacy, migration, and the enduring spirit of Filipinos across the globe.
The event also forms part of the celebration of Buwan ng Kasaysayan 2026, which adopts the Filipino theme “Hinubog ng Bayan, Dinuyan ng Alon.” According to the NHCP, the theme reflects the country’s rich maritime heritage and emphasizes how the sea has served as a bridge connecting the Philippine archipelago to the rest of the world through trade, diplomacy, and the journeys of millions of Filipinos overseas.

The exposition aims to encourage Filipinos to rediscover the nation’s past while inspiring a deeper appreciation of how history continues to shape the country’s future.
Visitors can look forward to a wide range of interactive activities and educational experiences throughout the three-day event. Participating national and local cultural institutions will mount exhibits featuring historical collections, treaty timelines, heritage displays, and immersive installations. Among the attractions is the Archival Passport Photo Booth, allowing guests to engage with history through a unique interactive experience.
HistoEx 2026 will also feature public lectures, panel discussions, historical games, cultural performances, and historical reenactments designed to make learning Philippine history more engaging for audiences of all ages.
One of the highlights of this year’s exposition is the HistoEx Talks, where distinguished personalities from the arts and culture sector will share stories of perseverance, creativity, and the importance of preserving Filipino heritage.
On July 27 at 4:00 p.m., actress, host, and comedian Joy Barcoma will headline the opening HistoEx Talks session, offering an afternoon of insights, humor, and inspiring conversations.
Then on the second day, July 27, veteran broadcast journalist and documentarian Howie Severino will grace the event. From his award-winning documentaries that have brought untold Filipino stories to light to his unwavering advocacy for Baybayin, Philippine history, and cultural heritage, attendees can look forward to an insightful and inspiring session. Through his experiences and compelling storytelling, Severino is expected to share valuable lessons on journalism, history, and the importance of preserving the nation’s identity.
Meanwhile, on July 29 at 4:00 p.m., acclaimed theater actress and singer Gab Pangilinan will take the stage to share her journey in the performing arts, reflecting on the lessons she has learned from her celebrated roles in theater and on screen and how storytelling helps preserve culture and history.
Beyond exhibitions and talks, NHCP hopes HistoEx 2026 will serve as a platform where history becomes more accessible, interactive, and relevant to younger generations.
As the country observes History Month 2026, the commission invites students, educators, history enthusiasts, families, and the general public to participate in the free event and discover the stories that have connected the Philippines across borders and generations.
