The Subic Bay International Triathlon (SUBIT) successfully marked its 33rd edition last May 2 to 3 at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone, further solidifying its status as the premier multi-sport event in the Philippines. This year’s race carried significant weight as it served as a major sanctioned event under the Asia Triathlon calendar, drawing a diverse field of world-class athletes, rising juniors, and dedicated age-groupers to the country’s triathlon capital. The weekend was characterized by high-intensity competition and a festive atmosphere that celebrated over three decades of sporting excellence in the region.

The elite categories saw a display of international dominance as Canada’s Liam Donnelly and Japan’s Manami Hayashi claimed the top spots on the podium. Their performances underscored the global appeal of the Subic course, which is known for its challenging swim in the bay and a demanding bike-and-run leg along the scenic but humid roads of the Freeport. Meanwhile, the local contingent showed incredible heart, with Inaki Lorbes and Raven Alcoseba being crowned the Philippine national champions, proving that Filipino triathletes continue to close the gap on the international stage.

A notable highlight of the 33rd edition was the inclusion of the Asia Triathlon Junior Cup, which provided a platform for the next generation of triathletes to gain valuable experience and international points. This addition emphasized the event’s commitment to grassroots development and the future of the sport. The presence of young athletes from across the continent added a fresh energy to the proceedings, ensuring that the legacy of SUBIT remains vibrant and forward-looking.

The success of the event also highlighted the seamless coordination between the Triathlon Association of the Philippines and the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. Beyond the physical competition, the triathlon provided a significant economic boost to the area, with thousands of participants and spectators filling local establishments. As the athletes crossed the finish line at the Boardwalk, the 33rd SUBIT once again proved to be more than just a race; it was a testament to the enduring spirit of the triathlon community and a showcase of Subic Bay as a world-class sports destination.
