MANILA, Philippines — The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in partnership with the Rotary Club of San Juan del Monte, Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology Manila City Jail – Female Dormitory, successfully held the Karaban ng Kasaysayan Para sa Kababaihan on March 13, 2026.
The initiative gathered women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in a day of educational and cultural activities aimed at bringing Philippine history closer to marginalized communities, in line with the celebration of National Women’s Month.

The program highlighted the stories and contributions of notable Filipino women who played significant roles in shaping the country’s history. Through this, organizers sought to inspire participants by connecting them with empowering narratives from the past.

The event was spearheaded by NHCP’s cluster of museums in Metro Manila, including the Museo ni Jose Rizal Fort Santiago, Dambana ni Apolinario Mabini PUP, Museo ng Katipunan – Pinaglabanan Memorial Shrine, Museo El Deposito, Museo ni Manuel Quezon, and the Presidential Car Museum.

Among the highlights of the program were discussions on selected heroines featured in the “Touch the Artist’s Vision” exhibit, a screening of the documentary Kababaihan ng Rebolusyon, and a lecture by NHCP Museum Researcher II Ismael Magallanes Jr.. His talk focused on the history of the Manila City Jail, formerly known as the Old Bilibid Prison.
Participants also received hygiene kits and shared a meal through donations from the Rotary Club of San Juan del Monte, reinforcing the spirit of community and support.
The NHCP continues to fulfill its mandate of promoting and preserving the country’s historical heritage through research, education, and public engagement—ensuring that history remains accessible to all sectors of society, including those in custodial settings.
