When school starts on August 29 2023, over 28 million children are projected to be enrolled in more than 47,000 public schools throughout the country, as reported by the Department of Education.
On Tuesday, Undersecretary for Operations Revsee Escobedo indicated in a press conference at the DepEd office in Pasig City that the start of the school year will be “critical” to the learning outcomes of children across the nation.
Escobedo stated that every student should have access to the “most basic necessities,” such as communications, facilities, transportation, peace, and order, and that schools should be physically ready and completely functional.
“This year, we acknowledge that we will face a lot of challenges on top of the perennial problems that we have, but rest assured that DepEd continues its efforts to address these challenges, but we will need a whole of nation approach to successfully do this,” Escobedo said.
The Departments of Health, Energy, Interior and Local Government, National Defense, Social Welfare and Development, Trade and Industry, Information and Communications Technology, and Transportation were among the government departments represented at the command conference.
The MWSS, MMDA, PNP, PAGASA NDRRMC, National Telecommunications Commission, Presidential Communications Office, and the Manila Electric Company (Meralco) are also members of the Inter-agency group.
