FOLLOWING her award-winning role in the Oscar-nominated film “Triangle of Sadness,” Filipino actress Dolly de Leon has been cast in the upcoming Hollywood action-comedy film “Grand Death Lotto.”
Amazon Studios officially announced de Leon as one of the movie’s supporting actors alongside Ayden Mayeri, Seann William Scott and Donald Elise Watkins.
Currently in production, “Grand Death Lotto,” directed by Paul Feig, is led by WWE star John Cena, Awkwafina and Simu Liu.
Based on its official logline issued in a press release, the film is set “in the very near future,” where the Grand Lottery has been established in “economically challenged California.”
The synopsis of the movie talks about the new LA transplant Katie (Awkwafina) accidentally finds herself with the winning ticket and must join forces with amateur jackpot protector Noel (Cena) to make it to sundown in order to claim her multi-billion dollar prize, all while dealing with Noel’s protection rival Louis Lewis (Liu), who also wants to get her by sundown to claim his rich protection commission.”
The film will be available for streaming on Prime Video across more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.
Besides “Grand Death Lotto,” it was reported last year that de Leon also landed another Hollywood project, where she will portray Jason Schwartzman’s stepmother in a Jewish coming-of-age comedy film.
The 55-year-old de Leon’s performance as Abigail in “Triangle of Sadness,” won her the Cannes Film Festival’s grand prize, the Palme d’Or, in May 2022.
It catapulted her to worldwide fame and earned her nominations and accolades from a number of top international movie award-giving bodies.
She won Best Supporting Performer at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Breakthrough Performance Award at the Middleburg Film Festival, Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the Guldbagge Awards and Best Supporting Actress at the North Dakota Film Society, among others.
De Leon further made history as the first Filipino to earn a Golden Globe and British Academy of Film and Television Arts nomination.
