THE Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) extended the validity of the special permit (SP) for public utility vehicles (PUVs) with provincial routes until Jan. 15, 2023 to accommodate the high number of commuters.
As of December 29, 802 buses were issued special permits to augment the existing units plying provincial routes.
The LTFRB has been preparing for the influx of passengers this holiday season in coordination with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Inter-Agency Council for Traffic, and local governments. The agency expects thousands of passengers to return to Metro Manila after the holidays.
Last November, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) projected that the Holiday rush will instantly add 10% – 20% traffic volume.
The PNP on this matter, assigned a total of 190,000 personnel in key strategic areas to ensure public safety.
