During our trip to Dumaguete City, we decided to visit Simian University and go for a stroll around the campus (why not?). This is one of the famous and highly respected educational institutions in the country.
Silliman University was established on August 28, 1901, by Protestant missionaries of the Presbyterian Church in the United States with the efforts of Dr. Horace B. Silliman thus making it the first Protestant school founded in the Philippines and the oldest American University in Asia.
As we entered the 119-year-old University. I was amazed by how there were acacia trees that truly stood the test of time, the place is full of greens and it makes you feel relaxed just by strolling around the campus. The place is peaceful, well-organized and the buildings are well-kept.
Of course, we would not miss the famous Silliman Hall. It was built in 1909. It is considered as the oldest wooden structure of Eastern Stick Style of American architecture in the Philippines. Just seeing the hall up close is a surreal feeling, taking you back in time and appreciating its old look structure.
The overall experience was splendid though it was a short visit. Campus is clean, the people were really friendly, kind and gentle. Just by visiting here brings you back to time, the culture of its own, the American influence in our culture Definitely a must-go place when visiting Dumaguete City. One of the best universities I’ve been so far.
