Managing everyday household expenses, preparing for unforeseen emergencies, and making sound financial choices are ongoing challenges for many Filipino families. To address these needs directly at the grassroots level, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Mimaropa has partnered with the Palawan Group of Companies to enhance financial literacy and resilience among beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps).

Through this collaboration, financial education modules and practical protection solutions are integrated into the regular Family Development Sessions conducted by DSWD. The Family Development Sessions serve as a core component of the 4Ps, offering structured learning opportunities for head-of-household participants on topics such as family welfare, community involvement, disaster preparedness, and budget management. By combining public sector social welfare initiatives with private sector expertise in financial services, the initiative aims to equip families across the island provinces of Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan with practical knowledge to better manage their limited resources.

A major component of the partnership focuses on teaching beneficiaries how to establish basic savings habits, plan household budgets effectively, and utilize affordable micro-insurance tools like ProtekTODO. Leadership from the Palawan Group highlighted that true financial resilience extends beyond generating income, requiring households to be adequately protected against unexpected life events, natural disasters, or sudden health emergencies. Officials emphasized that delivering empathetic service involves recognizing the daily economic realities faced by underserved Filipino families and providing them with actionable tools to prepare for future uncertainties.

Regional representatives from DSWD Mimaropa emphasized that multi-sectoral partnerships are essential for elevating social protection programs beyond simple cash grants. By empowering beneficiaries with enhanced financial management skills and access to tailored financial solutions, the joint effort seeks to support disadvantaged households in building long-term security, fostering sustainable independence, and creating a stronger foundation for their family’s future.
