Be ready and get hyped as the first-ever franchise based esports league in the country is set to raise the Philippine esports scene as it debuts its first season on March 2019.
Gariath Concepts, a Philippine based organization that focuses on events and conventions, is the Tournament Operations Partner of The Nationals that is set to take off this March 17, 2019. The tournament will feature three major games, Dota 2, Tekken 7, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang. Major brands such as Cignal TV, PLDT, and STI will compete with their respective teams.
Bernard Chong’s Bren Epro, Jane Basas’ Cignal Ultra, Jobe Nkemakolam’s Suha, Kevin Chung’s Happy Feet Emperors, Mhel Garrido’s STI, and Andrew Santos’ PLDT Smart are the confirmed teams that will be competing in Dota 2, Tekken 7, and Mobile Legends: Bang bang, for two conferences each.
“With the start of The Nationals, we are taking a significant step in achieving the maturity and accountability needed for our players to mature and be more competitive. The Nationals can provide stability, exposure, and opportunity for raw talents – of which we have aplenty – so that they can be harnessed to their full potential.” Ren Vitug, the commissioner of The Nationals, stated.
With the addition of esports in the upcoming 2019 Southeast Asian Games, Kevin Chung, the president of the league and owner of Happy Feet Emperor, saying that it boosts the fast-growing industry in the right direction.
“We need to have a bigger vision beyond boundaries. In esports, there are no age limits, no physical borders, no cultural or language barriers. Esports will be shown in The Nationals as a unifying event. The culture of esports is totally unprecedented. The passion, energy, and possibilities are endless and go beyond boundaries. It is paramount that we professionalize and thoroughly legitimize esports, and it’s important to do that now through The Nationals,” Chung said.
