The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), in partnership with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Manila Metropolitan Theater, conducted a historical marker restoration workshop for NCCA personnel and volunteers on May 18, 2026, as part of the celebration of National Heritage Month.
Dubbed as part of the “Kasaysayan sa MET” partnership, the workshop aimed to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills in preserving the country’s historical markers and cultural heritage.

Technicians, engineers, chemists, and conservators from the NHCP’s Materials Research Conservation Division led the training sessions, which featured lectures on metal conservation, discussions on restoration processes, and demonstrations of advanced equipment used by the NHCP in its conservation and restoration work.

Participants were also given hands-on experience in restoring and repainting two old NHCP historical markers. During the activity, facilitators guided volunteers on the proper materials, tools, and techniques needed in marker conservation and maintenance.
The workshop highlighted the importance of safeguarding historical markers, which serve as tangible reminders of the nation’s history and identity. It also encouraged greater participation among cultural workers and volunteers in heritage preservation efforts.

According to organizers, the initiative forms part of the ongoing collaboration between NHCP and the NCCA Metropolitan Theater through the #KasaysayanSaMET program, which seeks to promote Philippine history, culture, and heritage awareness among the public.
The NHCP is the government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through museums, research, publications, and historical programs, while also preserving the country’s historical heritage through conservation projects and the installation and maintenance of historical markers nationwide.
