Get your tote bags and bookmarks ready because the heart of Mandaluyong is about to become a sanctuary for every Filipino book lover. MNLToday.ph is gearing up to cover the biggest celebration of local literature as the National Book Development Board (NBDB) officially opens the 4th Philippine Book Festival (PBF) this weekend.

Running from March 12 to 15, 2026, at the Megatrade Hall in SM Megamall, this year’s festival is far more than just a typical marketplace. It has been reimagined as an immersive “Rainforest of Knowledge” (Gubat ng Karunungan), a space dedicated exclusively to the brilliance of Filipino authors, illustrators, and publishers. In a major shift for 2026, Day 1 will be open to the general public for the very first time, allowing readers to explore the best of Pinoy publishing alongside institutional evaluators right from the start.

NBDB Executive Director Charisse Aquino-Tugade notes that the continued interest from the public proves a meaningful demand for stories that reflect local culture, languages, and lived experiences. To meet this demand, the festival floor has been divided into four distinct “Realms” that cater to every kind of reader. The Aral Aklat realm serves as a hub for educators with the latest textbooks, while Booktopia offers a paradise for fiction and non-fiction fans. Families can head to Kid Lit for whimsical, child-friendly experiences, while the Komiks realm celebrates the visual richness of Pinoy graphic novels.

The event also offers a rare chance to rub elbows with literary icons. Attendees can look forward to book signings with National Artists Ricky Lee and Virgilio Almario, as well as celebrated historian Ambeth Ocampo and komiks legends Manix Abrera and Pol Medina. The lineup even bridges the gap between traditional and digital stardom, featuring appearances by trade-book superstars Jonaxx and Ron Canimo. Adding to the excitement, GMA Network and PaperKat Books will officially debut the “Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre” during the festival.
Beyond the modern hits, history buffs can marvel at rare treasures, including facsimiles of Jose Rizal’s Noli Me Tangere, the Doctrina Christiana, and Fr. Manuel Blanco’s Flora de Filipinas. The weekend will reach a fever pitch on March 14 at the Fiesta Stage with the hosting of the 43rd National Book Awards, the prestigious “Oscars” of the Philippine literary scene, honoring the creators who have shaped the country’s cultural landscape.
Admission to this four-day literary extravaganza is free, making it the perfect “third place” for the community to connect. MNLToday.ph will be on the ground throughout the event to bring you live updates, exclusive author interviews, and a first look at the wonders within the Rainforest of Knowledge. Whether you are a casual reader or a hardcore collector, the Philippine Book Festival is where our national stories truly come to life.
