Seoul, South Korea — Global streaming giant Netflix has unveiled its latest original series Tantara, a highly anticipated period drama set against the vivid backdrop of the Korean entertainment industry in the 1960s through the 1980s. The announcement, made during the “Next on Netflix 2026 Korea” content showcase in Yeouido, Seoul, officially confirmed two of Korea’s most beloved actors — Song Hye Kyo and Gong Yoo — as the project’s lead stars.

Tantara tells the sweeping tale of individuals who begin with nothing but risk everything to chase success in a rapidly changing and often unforgiving entertainment world. The series is penned by acclaimed screenwriter Noh Hee Kyung, whose previous works include Our Blues and Dear My Friends, and is directed by Lee Yoon Jung, known for iconic series such as Coffee Prince and Cheese in the Trap.

In the newly released stills, Song Hye Kyo and Gong Yoo appear together for the first time on camera, drawing significant attention from fans and media alike. Song portrays Min Ja, a driven figure navigating the trials of show business, while Gong Yoo plays Dong Gu, Min Ja’s childhood friend who embarks on the challenging journey alongside her.

The cast also includes Seolhyun as Min Hui — a character whose love-hate relationship with Min Ja adds dramatic depth — Cha Seung Won as the renowned composer Gil Yeo, and Lee Ha Nee as Yang Ja, an aspiring singer and Min Hui’s mother.

During the Netflix showcase, senior content executives highlighted Tantara as a standout title in the 2026 lineup, noting the series’ rich portrayal of passion, ambition, and the human drive for success over decades of cultural evolution.
Tantara is slated for release in the fourth quarter of 2026 and is expected to be a major highlight of Netflix’s international content slate for the year.
