MANILA – The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) – Museo El Deposito together with the Provincial Government of Zambales and Municipal Government of Masinloc, Zambales will open the Pag-asa sa Gitna ng Kalayaan exhibit and lecture on the West Philippine Sea (WPS) on 25 September at Masinloc, Zambales.

In line with Memorandum Circular No. 87 series of 2025, “Directing All Government Agencies And Instrumentalities, And Encouraging Local Government Units And The Private Sector, To Promote Awareness Of The Philippines As A Maritime And Archipelagic Nation,”the local government units of Masinloc and Zambales are partnering with the NHCP for this event.
Since 2024, the NHCP has been actively doing an information campaign for awareness on the WPS through this exhibit with images taken by photographer Paul Quiambao. This exhibition also features the cartographic collection of the National Library of the Philippines, a miniature of the BRP Sierra Madre and the original flag of Freedomland from Admiral Tomas Cloma. This is usually partnered with a lecture by retired Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, including guest reactors to discuss the implications of the situation in the WPS to our countrymen and sovereignty.

After debuting at the National Library of the Philippines, this exhibit has already visited different universities around Metro Manila. It will be conducted in Masinloc, Zambales due to its proximity to the WPS and communities affected by the issue, and aggression of the People’s Republic of China.
The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research, and publications, and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
