CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, PHILIPPINES — CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Universal Robina Corporation (URC) Flour has expanded its regional MSME empowerment program to Northern Mindanao with the arrival of its Sugod Bakery Caravan in Cagayan de Oro, timed with the celebration of the annual Higalaay Festival. Bringing its state-of-the-art Mobile Bakery Van across the sea following successful runs in Quezon province and Davao City, URC Flour is positioning the mobile facility as a core feature of this year’s fiesta. The initiative serves as an interactive learning hub where neighborhood bakeshop owners, local bakers, and aspiring entrepreneurs can engage with cutting-edge baking firsthand.
Through this Sugod Bakery Caravan, URC Flour reinforces its commitment to countryside enterprise development by delivering practical technical training, hands-on skill enhancement, and operational optimization strategies directly to Cagayan de Oro’s small business community.

“Our partnership with the Cagayan de Oro City LGU for the Sugod Bakery Caravan goes far beyond festival sponsorship. True to the spirit of Higalaay, we are coming to CDO as a long-term friend and business partner to local bakery owners,” said Naida Dalisay-Ebora, Commercial Director of URC Flour. “By bringing our mobile bakery classroom directly to neighborhood bakers, we are providing hands-on technical training, cost optimization strategies, and baking techniques. Teaching a baker to refine their craft and run a more efficient operation is how we build local businesses that last.”
The local government unit of Cagayan de Oro expressed strong support for the initiative, highlighting its direct impact on empowering the local workforce and fostering sustainable economic growth.

“We warmly welcome URC Flour to Cagayan de Oro as a true ‘higala’ to our local business community. This partnership aligns seamlessly with our goal to empower Cagay-anon micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) with real, actionable skills,” noted CDO LGU Leadership.
The URC Flour Sugod Bakery Van will feature live baking demonstrations, hands-on technical upskilling, and expert consultation sessions throughout its run in Cagayan de Oro on August 25 and 26.
Local bakery owners, commercial operators, neighborhood bakers, and aspiring entrepreneurs are invited to participate in this free, educational event during the Higalaay Festival celebrations to experience modern bakery techniques firsthand and gain practical insights to expand their commercial operations.
