QUEZON CITY — The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) officially opened its latest special exhibition, “IMPETUS – Carlos P. Romulo: Architect of Diplomacy,” on April 20, 2026, at the NHCP Presidential Car Museum.
The exhibit, mounted in line with the 2026 Year of Philippine Diplomatic History and Diaspora, pays tribute to the life and legacy of Carlos P. Romulo—a distinguished statesman, journalist, soldier, and the first Asian and Filipino president of the United Nations General Assembly.

Department of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Maria Andrelita S. Austria, representing Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro, served as guest of honor during the opening ceremony. Also in attendance were Joy Belmonte, NHCP Chair Regalado Trota Jose Jr., Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo, and Liana Romulo, alongside members of the diplomatic corps, scholars, and key stakeholders in public history and international relations.

Relatives of Romulo, including former Senator Alberto Romulo and Pasig Representative Roman Romulo, also attended the launch, underscoring the enduring relevance of his contributions to Philippine diplomacy.
The exhibition highlights Romulo’s pivotal role in shaping the country’s foreign policy and promoting peaceful diplomacy, multilateralism, and international cooperation during critical periods of the 20th century. It presents him as a key figure in global affairs who championed dialogue amid conflict and amplified the voice of smaller nations on the world stage.

Featured in the exhibit are original artifacts from the Romulo Collection and partner institutions, including medals, official documents, photographs, portraits, and personal memorabilia. These are complemented by multimedia presentations and interpretive installations that provide deeper insight into his life and work.
The opening program also featured cultural performances by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines’ Bagong Himig Serenata and Harana String Co.

Now open to the public, the exhibit can be viewed from Tuesday to Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at the Presidential Car Museum. Visitors are encouraged to check NHCP’s official website and social media pages for updates on related programs and activities.
The NHCP continues to lead efforts in promoting Philippine history through its network of museums, research initiatives, and heritage conservation programs nationwide.
