On Friday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board approved a series of fare increases in public transportation; jeepneys, buses, taxis, and Transport Network Vehicle Services subsequent petitions by transport groups after the office “recognized the need for a fare increase following the continuing rise of oil prices.”
For jeepneys: From the decision of the Board, a provisional increase of P1 was approved for the first four kilometers when riding on a traditional and modern public utility jeepneys.
P12 will be the minimum base fare for traditional public utility jeepneys (TPUJ), while modern public utility jeepneys (MPUJ) will be at P14.
Fares for the following kilometer travel for TPUJ will increase to P1.80 from the current P1.50, while for MPUJ will increase to P2.20 from P1.80.
For public utility buses: Operators appealed with P4 to P7 base fare raise and a rate ranging from P0.45 to P1.20 per succeeding kilometer.
The LTFRB approved a uniformed base fare rise of P2 for city and provincial buses for the first five kilometers and a fare hike of P0.35 to P0.50 for the succeeding kilometer be based on the type of bus.
For taxis and Transport Network Vehicle Services: The LTFRB also approved an increase of P5 to the flag down rate of taxis and TNVS.
On effectivity of the Board’s decision, P45 will be the minimum fare for taxis and sedan-type TNVS, while AUV/SUV-type will be at P55.
For hatchback-type TNVS, P35 will be the flag down rate with no increase for the succeeding kilometers.
The 20% discount for students, senior citizens, and people with disability will remain effective.
