K-pop girl group BLACKPINK’s Rosé has set two new Guinness World Records (GWR) titles through her solo debut single album “R” containing the songs “On The Ground” and “Gone.”
“On The Ground” peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. US charts last March.
According to Billboard, Rosé is the first artist to top the rankings with a solo release and with a group after BLACKPINK’s “Lovesick Girls” grabbed the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart last October. This makes her the first artist to reach number one on a Billboard Global chart as a soloist and as part of a group,” wrote Guinness World Records.
Rosé set another Guinness World Records title through the “On The Ground” music video, which was released on March 12. “The music video for ‘On The Ground’ premiered via YouTube on the same day and subsequently became the most viewed YouTube music video in 24 hours by a solo K-pop artist with 41.6 million views,” said GWR.
This surpassed the record set by Korean rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” which racked up 36 million views.
According to GWR, BLACKPINK “also held previous Guinness World Records titles including the most viewed YouTube video in 24 hours and the most viewed music video in 24 hours, however these records are now held by fellow K-pop band BTS for their hit single ‘Dynamite.
