First held in 1810 in Munich, Oktoberfest was intended to celebrate the marriage of Crown Prince Ludwig of Bavaria, who later became King Ludwig I, to Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen. Since then, it is now held from mid-September until October not just in Germany but also, across the globe.
