To improve internet services in Mindanao, PLDT Inc. is installing an underwater cable in Dipolog City.
As part of its attempts to strengthen its fiber network in Mindanao, it has begun cable-laying operations in Dipolog City.
The new stretch, which connects the company’s undersea fiber optic cable from the town of Zamboanguita in Negros Oriental, would improve services for Zamboanga del Norte and Mindanao as a whole.
“We are highly confident that expanding PLDT’s fiber network through this project in Dipolog City will allow us to provide better services for our customers in Mindanao,” PLDT Mindanao head for corporate relationship management Benbrackie Melasa said.
“With this, we hope to further support the growing connectivity requirements of more enterprises and businesses who are central to the economic recovery of the region,” Melasa said.

The project would connect over 700 kilometers of fiber to PLDT’s network, enhancing resiliency and service quality for both fixed and wireless services across Mindanao.
More companies will be able to use a fast and dependable network, according to PLDT, especially when local economies begin to recover from the ravages of the epidemic.
“We continue to strive to level up our customers’ experience by expanding our fiber network, which powers our 4G and 5G mobile networks and our fixed broadband network, serving families and businesses nationwide,” PLDT and Smart Communications Inc. head of technology Mario Tamayo said.
“As the economy continues to open up with the easing of pandemic restrictions, connectivity remains to be key to empowering Filipinos’ increasingly digital lifestyles, enabling livelihoods, online education, hybrid workplaces, day-to-day transactions and even entertainment needs. With and without the challenges of the pandemic, PLDT is here to support the connectivity needs of Filipinos, wherever they may be in the country,” Tamayo said.
The new domestic submarine cable project is part of PLDT’s countrywide network development initiatives, according to the company.
Between P76 billion and P80 billion is estimated to be invested by the corporation. PLDT’s fiber footprint was 743,700 kilometers as of the end of 2021.
