For the second year in a row, the Sy brothers topped Forbes Philippines’ 50 wealthiest for the year 2021.
Last year, the Sy children took the place of their father, Henry Sy, on the list. Until his death in 2019, the patriarch of the Sy family was the richest man in the Philippines for 11 years in a row.
According to Forbes Magazine, the wealth of the Philippines’ 50 wealthiest people increased by 30% to $79 billion this year.
Former senator and realtor Manny Villar, as well as port mogul Enrique Razon, are among the Philippines’ top three wealthiest.
The Sy siblings have a combined net worth of $16.6 billion, Villar is worth $6.7 billion, and Razon is worth $5.8 billion. Villar is the wealthiest of the Sy siblings when their fortune is totaled.
Lance Gokongwei and siblings, $4 billion; Jaime Zobel de Ayala, $3.3 billion; Dennis Anthony and Maria Grace Uy, $2.8 billion; Tony Tan Caktiong, $2.7 billion; Andrew Tan, $2.6 billion; Ramon Ang, $2.3 billion; and Ty siblings, $2.2 billion round out the top ten richest in the Philippines after the Sy siblings, Villar, and Razon.
This year’s list required a net worth of $200 million, up from $100 million last year.
This year, the Sy brothers’ net worth jumped by $2.7 billion, Villar’s by $1.7 billion, and Razon’s by $1.5 billion.
The Philippines’ top 50 wealthiest people have a total fortune of $79 billion, up 30% from previous year and accounting for 21.81 percent of the country’s GDP.
