MANILA, Philippines — Business executive Lance Y. Gokongwei has been appointed chairman of the board of PhilWeb Corp., marking a leadership change as the listed gaming technology company moves forward with its business expansion.
PhilWeb said its board approved Gokongwei’s appointment effective August 27, 2026. He will serve as chairman for the remainder of the board’s current term.
Gokongwei was already serving as a member of PhilWeb’s board before assuming the chairmanship.
His appointment follows the departure of Crisanto Roy B. Alcid, who relinquished both his positions as chairman and chief executive officer. Alcid, however, will continue to serve as a director of the company. PhilWeb has yet to announce a replacement for the CEO position.
The leadership transition comes shortly after Gokongwei made a strategic investment of approximately ₱2.02 billion in PhilWeb and joined its board in July. His entry into the company is part of a broader restructuring aimed at strengthening its capitalization, governance, and technology-driven growth strategy.

PhilWeb President Brian Ng said Gokongwei’s assumption of the chairmanship provides the company with stronger institutional governance as it enters its next phase of expansion.
Under its evolving strategy, PhilWeb plans to further develop its artificial intelligence-powered infrastructure and business-to-business technology capabilities, particularly for regulated digital gaming operations and large commercial and platform partners.

Gokongwei, who also serves as president and chief executive officer of JG Summit Holdings, said the leadership transition represents an important point in PhilWeb’s capitalization and operational scale.
The company said its strengthened leadership structure is expected to support its expansion in the regulated digital sector while pursuing partnerships with commercial tourism groups, multinational digital platforms, and licensed institutional partners in Southeast Asia.
PhilWeb provides gaming technology and services to electronic gaming outlets in the Philippines and has been expanding its operations beyond its traditional gaming technology business.
