Bamboo is seen as a new prospect for business as it considers as a high-value crop by William Dar, Secretary of Department of Agriculture.
According to Secretary Dar, the Department of Agriculture was prioritizing the production of bamboo that would lead to investments and job creation. In which, they also lined up several activities to support the advancement of the bamboo industry.
Bamboo is the tallest member in the grass family. It is one of the fastest growing plants on the earth growing reportedly up to 98inches in just 24 hours. Which ismainly found in Asia and some parts of Africa and parts of Americas in many different varieties.
Over the centuries bamboo has been found a variety of uses like culinary, medicine, textiles, paper, construction, furniture, home décor and musical instruments.
Also the new agri-industrial strategy of the Department of Agriculture is not only aimed at enhancing farm productivity. But developing more value-added products to provided more business and employment opportunities.
He also mentioned the importance of inviting more Filipino and foreign investors to set up tissue culture facilities and engage in bamboo production and processing.
