The first Filipino bread and pastry shop in The Hague Netherlands is now open and offers famous authentic Filipino bread, pastries and delicacies from the Philippines such as pan de sal, ensayada, puto, kutsinta and kapeng barako to Dutch citizens and resident expatriates.
Filipino restaurateurs Danton and Norma Lacorum, who have been residents of The Hague opened Cafe Nordrick. PhilippineAmbassador Jaime Victor Ledda attended the cafe’s blessing and inauguration. Part of the couple’s plan is to expand the business and to offer other Filipino delicacies to attract the interest of Filipinos and Dutch, including expatriates who love Filipino food.
The Hague, or Den Haag in Dutch is where the seat of government of the Netherlands is located as well as the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), which ruled in favor of the Philippines in a territorial dispute against China in 2016.
With a metropolitan population of more than 1 million, it is the third-largest city in the Netherlands, after Amsterdam and Rotterdam. The Rotterdam – The Hague metropolitan area, with a population of approximately 2.7 million, is the 13th largest in the European Union and the most populous in the country. Located in the west of the Netherlands, The Hague is in the center of the Haaglanden conurbation and lies at the southwest corner of the larger Ranstad conurbation.
Cafe Nordrick is definitely a breath of fresh air to Filipinos in the area who has been longing for Filipino favorites.
