Commuters and motorists in Northern Metro Manila are nearing a major breakthrough in travel efficiency as NLEX Corporation confirms that the new expressway segment connecting the North Luzon Expressway to Novaliches is on track to open by September 2026. This vital link is designed to bypass some of the most congested surface roads in Quezon City, providing a high-speed alternative for those traveling between the northern provinces and the high-density residential areas of Novaliches and Fairview. By diverting thousands of vehicles away from traditional chokepoints, the project is expected to significantly ease daily gridlock along Quirino Highway and General Luis Street.

The project involves the construction of several kilometers of brand-new pavement, modern toll collection systems, and strategically placed interchanges to ensure smooth traffic flow. Engineering teams are currently focused on the final stages of asphalt overlay, bridge deck finishing, and the installation of safety features such as high-visibility signage and LED street lighting. This segment serves as a key component of the broader NLEX expansion program, which aims to create a more integrated road network that supports the rapid urban development occurring in the outskirts of the capital.

Once operational, the new route is projected to cut travel time between NLEX and Novaliches by as much as 30 to 40 minutes during peak hours. Local businesses and logistics companies stand to benefit the most from this development, as the improved connectivity will lower vehicle wear-and-tear and fuel consumption for freight moving into the city. As the September deadline approaches, NLEX Corporation and the Department of Public Works and Highways are conducting final safety inspections to ensure the segment meets the highest international standards for expressway travel, marking another successful milestone under the “Build Better More” infrastructure agenda.
