The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) Metro Manila Cluster Museums, in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office Manila and the Rotary Club of San Juan del Monte, successfully held the “Karaban ng Kasaysayan para sa Kabataan” at Bacood Elementary School in Sta. Mesa, Manila last October 10, 2025.
The event, part of the NHCP’s ongoing “Dekada ng Kasaysayan 2023–2033” celebration and anchored on the 2025 theme “Year of the Youth in Philippine History,” aimed to engage young Filipinos in rediscovering and appreciating the nation’s history through interactive and creative learning activities.

Designed to reach grassroots communities, the Karaban featured a variety of educational activities that made history more accessible and engaging for students. Among these were storytelling sessions, arts and crafts workshops, a Touch the Artist’s Vision (TAV) tactile exhibit, film showings, and a lecture on the Philippine flag and its national symbols.

Around 100 students from Grades 1 to 6 participated in the event, gaining new insights into the Filipino struggle for freedom and the importance of preserving national identity. Alongside the student activities, a focus group discussion (FGD) was also conducted for teachers, which centered on the highlights of the Dekada ng Kasaysayan Taon ng Kabataan and the role of museums as learning tools for object-based teaching.

Through initiatives like the Karaban ng Kasaysayan, the NHCP continues to fulfill its mandate of promoting Philippine history and heritage by bringing educational programs directly to communities and schools. The agency remains committed to inspiring a deeper understanding of the past among the youth, ensuring that the legacy of freedom and nationhood is passed on to future generations.
