The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced on Wednesday that it has a new Viber channel, which focuses on disseminating the Philippine Standard Time (PST) throughout the country.
This is in conjunction with the celebration of the National Time Consciousness Week 2025. “Oras Pinas” which aims top raise awareness of the value of timekeeping by providing timely and synchronized updates.
PAGASA said that there will be a 10-second countdown before the official changing of the minute hand, and updates will be given every 4 a.m., 8 a.m., 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The Viber channel’s introduction is a vital part of PAGASA and DOSTs National Time Consciousness Week 2025 celebration, which raises awareness about the importance of precise time in the country’s social, economic, and scientific activities. Time consciousness is critical for increasing productivity, minimizing errors, and ensuring that everyday operations run smoothly.
The agency is encouraging other government agencies and even other Filipinos to join the newly-published channel.
The general public is encouraged to join by clicking on the link or scanning the QR code provided via official PAGASA websites and social media accounts. Aside from QR code scanning, the channel is also searchable by just typing “Oras Pinas” in the Viber search bar.
Republic Act 10535, also known as the Philippine Standard Time Act of 2013, mandates all national and local government offices to display the PST under the time released by PAGASA using its network time protocol.
This digital initiative aims to raise awareness of the value of timekeeping and develop time consciousness by giving real-time, accurate, and synchronized time updates. The channel, which will be available on the Viber platform, will be a free and easily accessible resource for individuals, businesses, and government organizations who wish to align with the country’s official time.
Agencies and stakeholders can easily join the Official Philippine Standard Time Viber channel by searching for “Oras Pinas” in the Viber application. They can also join by clicking on the link or scanning the QR code provided via official PAGASA official website and social media accounts.
