FedEx Express, a leading global express transportation company, has once again partnered with Junior Achievement (JA) that hosted the 2024 FedEx JA International Trade Challenge Asia Pacific, where the winners has been announced in the event held in Singapore.
The competition attracted over 4,500 students from 10 markets, with 60 finalists tasked with creating a market entry strategy for a circular economy product targeting Turkey.
Team CJ, featuring Cheryl Lim Xin Yi from Singapore and Julia Jasmine Binti Jufri from Malaysia, won first place for their innovative biofilm made from seaweed. Runners-up included Team Circuvate, who developed bioplastic plates, and Team ONE, consisting of Rysa D. Sumalinog from the Philippines and Clarisse Chee Qian Ying from Singapore, who proposed turning food waste into Turkish carpets.
The FedEx JA International Trade Challenge is a simulated business competition where teams of students from across the region are tasked with creating and managing a virtual import/export business. They must research market trends, develop a business plan, negotiate contracts, and navigate the complexities of international trade regulations.
FedEx Express has been a long-standing partner of JA, providing mentorship, resources, and financial support to the organization’s programs. The company’s involvement in the International Trade Challenge is a testament to its commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and empowering young people to succeed in the global economy.
Now in its 18th year, the competition has introduced nearly 50,000 students across Asia Pacific to business, economics, and international trade, blending classroom learning with practical teamwork exercises. Judges praised the students’ efforts, noting the high quality of their presentations within the limited timeframe.
The winning team from the 2024 FedEx JA International Trade Challenge Asia Pacific will have the opportunity to represent the region at the global finals, where they will compete against teams from around the world.
