It’s almost 2 years since BTS, the most famous South Korean group, announced their hiatus to give way to their country’s mandatory military service.
But as they say, APOBANGPO (Army Forever, BTS Forever), their beloved fandom will wait. “Everyday is a countdown to the next time I see you.”
Last week, ARMY (BTS fandom) reunites as they celebrate the release of Suga’s D-Day in Seoul concert in cinemas worldwide. The concert movie which was taken during Suga’s 3-day sold-out concert in Seoul last year, dated August 4-6, 2024 was shown around the world from April 10 and 13.
ARMY was too excited to see BTS even if it was live telecast last year. It only shows how much they missed AGUST D (aka SUGA) who weeks after his concert, enlisted to the military and are expected to be back on June 2025.
It added to the excitement of the fans to see SUGA with his co-members as the 3-day concert features the performances with Jimin (Tony Montana), Jungkook (Burn It) and RM (Strange).
Since the announcement, thousands of ARMYs had booked cinemas for block screenings, a reunion and to celebrate SUGA’s music whom mostly resonates to mental health and life injustices. One of the group of fans who prepared earlier and immediately scheduled a block screening at SM Megamall’s Director’s Club for the April 13th screening is Suga & Jimin’s fanbase “Minimizz Events“.
Asking the ARMY on why they are still doing this even though the members are not there physically and cannot promote it personally?
They said that it’s a tradition to the fandom to show up for BTS as always, the way BTS always had their back for their fans. This kind of gatherings is an ARMY culture that gives the impression of how BTS became an inspiration through their personality and music. The event was also a way of ARMY to show why they’re the Biggest Fandom in the world.
Attending these kind of events is common to the fandom, because as they gather, it includes lots of picture taking with the BTS members life-size standee, dressing up like the members, then a lot of freebies, like photocards and album giveaways. It always amazed everyone how dedicated BTS fandom is, well, its not a question anymore as they managed to have 6 No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 through fans pushing and supporting it through thick and thin.
The concert movie was almost 2 hours, and during that time, all you can hear is screams and sing-alongs. Some get emotional and was already sobbing because of missing the group, particularly with Suga who was been not updating since his military enlistment last September 2023.
The concert was so awesome, as Suga performs all his self-written songs from AGUST D, D-2 and D-Day, even the songs he performed with his group, BTS like UGH, Cypher 4, and Ddaeng.
He is so talented, I mean, rapping, dancing singing, talking and taking pictures with the fans throughout the concert. A multi-talented and a multi-tasker artist at the same time.
The very same weekend, Trafalgar Releasing and HYBE have announced the record-setting success of the cinematic cut of SUGA│Agust D TOUR ‘D-DAY’ THE MOVIE. Inclusive of the screenings on April 10 through April 13, the concert film has grossed a total of $10.16 million worldwide from limited showtimes.
It also emerged as the highest grossing US and worldwide concert film of 2024 to date. In North America, the concert movie reached No.2 on the April 10 box office with a gross of more than $961k and a per-screen average of $1,264 across 784 movie theaters.
Congratulations to Suga, BTS and ARMY, see you in 2025!
