Celebrating its 56th year, the Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) witnessed an extraordinary showcase of Filipino talent with over 2,900 entries interpreting the theme “Galíng Pinoy, Galing Pinoy.” Young artists from across the country’s universities displayed brilliance and innovation, shaping a narrative of progress and challenging conventional norms.
In the Photography category, Marniel Daguio of Tarlac State University claimed first place with “Rahuyo ng Mapag-asang Tala,” capturing the essence of Baguio and Tarlac City’s culture. Jennielyn Liezel Sala (Polytechnic University of the Philippines – Manila) secured second place with “Buhay,” and Connie Grace Carlos (Bulacan State University) took third place with “Pahiyas ng Kamay.”
The Digital Fine Arts category saw Mary Dawn Jane Monterde (Holy Trinity University) clinching first place with “Beyond Illumination,” showcasing the vibrant Filipino spirit. Second and third places were awarded to Mary Ashley Sophia Chikiamco (Far Eastern University – Institute of Technology) for “Mayamang Pamayanan” and Jahn Aldrin Carilimdiliman (University of San Carlos) for “Hanapbuhay: Hanap Sining,” respectively
In the Oil and Acrylic category, Judhea Java (University of the Philippines – Cebu) secured first place with “Weaving the Narrative,” drawing inspiration from women artisans continuing the weaving tradition. John Lester Garcia (Caraga State University – Cabadbaran Campus) claimed second place with “Prinsipyo,” and Markus Gabrielle Gallegos (University of the Philippines-Diliman) took third place with “Faceted Identities.”
The Watercolor category celebrated Glenn Gonzales (University of the Philippines-Diliman) as the winner with “Inaaning Tagumpay,” inspired by the agricultural richness of Nueva Ecija. Edward Russel Romero (University of the Philippines – Cebu) secured second place with “Nak, Uuwi na si Mama,” and Shereen Yancy Millet (GK College of Business, Arts, and Technology) took third place with “Pagsibol.” The NSAC highlights the country’s vibrant artistic spirit, fostering creativity and envisioning a more innovative future.**
