During the recently concluded annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, Kevin Tan, the CEO of Alliance Global Group Inc. (AGI), expressed great enthusiasm about the Philippine delegation’s participation. He described it as a historic moment, particularly considering the two years of the pandemic that preceded it.
During an interview with RTV-Malacanang on the sidelines of the WEF meetings, Tan emphasized the importance of global cooperation, noting that there was a growing realization of its necessity.
According to Tan, the Philippine presence at the WEF meeting also served as a powerful indication that the country is open for business. He stated, “This presents a significant opportunity for us to showcase the Philippines’ growth story as a nation.”
The presence of him and six other top executives from the largest Philippine corporations in Davos as part of the Philippine delegation signifies, as per Tan’s perspective, their collective effort to attract significant investments.
For Tan, the World Economic Forum holds great importance, both for the nation and his own company.
AGI, a local enterprise with a worldwide footprint thanks to its Emperador spirits business, possesses a deep understanding of its areas of expertise.
“We are involved in the real estate and tourism sectors, and, most notably, we also have a significant international presence through our distilled spirits venture. We operate in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Mexico, demonstrating that, in essence, we are a Filipino company with a robust global footprint,” remarked Tan.
He further emphasized, “Our commitment to tourism is substantial, and therefore, we are equally committed to promoting the Philippines.” This reference pertains to AGI’s subsidiary, Travellers International Hotel Group, which actively promotes integrated tourism initiatives.
Tan, who earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a specialization in Management from the University of Asia and the Pacific, assumed the role of CEO at AGI in 2018. He also occupies multiple positions within AGI’s affiliated companies, which are involved in various sectors such as real estate development, tourism and entertainment, gaming, food and beverage, as well as the quick-service restaurant industry, both in the Philippines and on a global scale.
AGI serves as the parent corporation for several well-known entities, including Megaworld, Emperador, AGILE Digital/Pickaroo & Travellers/Newport World Resorts. Additionally, AGI has a partnership with Golden Arches Development Corp., the franchise holder for McDonald’s in the Philippines.
Tan formerly held the role of senior vice president for Megaworld’s Commercial Division, responsible for overseeing the Megaworld Lifestyle Malls, where he is widely recognized for expanding the company’s presence in the retail property sector.
Presently, Tan serves as the executive vice president and corporate strategy officer at Megaworld.
Recently, he was appointed as the honorary mayor of Bacolod City, where Megaworld has two townships.
Upon accepting this prestigious title, Tan expressed his belief that it will serve as an inspiration for Megaworld Corp. to contribute to the city’s economic growth through impactful projects and world-class developments.
