After customers reported unauthorized withdrawals, Bank of the Philippine Islands of the Ayala Group indicated on Wednesday that it was working to fix duplicate transactions “within the day.”
BPI stated in an advisory that this had an impact on certain of its point of sale (POS), cash accept machine (CAM), and automated teller machine (ATM) transactions prior to New Year’s Eve.
The bank did ensure customers that their accounts “are safe and secure.”
Some ATM, CAM deposits, POS, and e-commerce debit transactions from December 30 to December 31, 2022, were posted twice. Our team is already at work undoing the duplicate transactions, it stated.
Concerns about the origin of the bug have not yet received a response from a corporate official.
On Twitter early on Wednesday, the phrase “0431 Debit Memo” was one of the most popular trends. According to the lender’s earlier statement, this is a catch-all word for all debit transactions, including withdrawals, fund transfers, and bill payment transactions.
As at 10:40 a.m., the BPI mobile app remained unavailable. today, Wednesday.
According to BPI, access to its web and mobile app platforms may be intermittent due to the huge volume of questions coming through its online banking channels.
