Last January, Gotianun’s EastWest announced the addition of renowned Filipino bankers Imelda Capistrano and Cristina Orbeta to its board of directors.
Capistrano and Orbeta not only bring the wisdom and strength of women to the bank’s top positions, but they also bring crucial governance and banking experience as EastWest continues to navigate the industry through the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic and the expectations of an economic recovery.
Capistrano, who has 40 years of expertise in the sector, spent nearly 11 years as the director and country manager of Wells Fargo. She has vast experience in a variety of banking specialities, including business growth, governance, and administration of offshore banks and representative offices. Wachovia Bank, Standard Chartered Bank Australia, First Interstate Bank of California, and Unionbank are among her previous employers.
Orbeta has over 42 years of excellent banking and governance experience. She presently works as a deposit insurance specialist for the World Bank. She served as PDIC’s executive vice president for nine years before rising to the position of president and vice-chairman of the board in 2014, where she remained until her retirement in 2017. She formerly served on the boards of UCPB, UCPB Savings Bank, and UCPB Leasing as a member/advisor. She has experience in a variety of financial areas, including borrowing and lending, loan negotiations, credit analysis, and risk management. Her five years at the Credit Lyonnais Manila Offshore branch gave her experience in international banking operations.
