The Sapatos Festival 2021 marks the 16th year of the annual event. Without much festivities and hoopla, the annual Christmas Bazaar makes a return this year amid the challenging times brought to us by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As always, this year’s event features proudly Marikina-made shoes and leather products. In 2005, a City Council ordinance renamed the Sapatero Festival to what it is known today as the Sapatos Festival, with its objective of revitalizing the city’s shoe industry to give recognition to Marikina-made shoes.
Shoe and leather products manufacturers from different partts of Marikina participated in this year’s festival showcasing quality and affordable shoes, bags, belts, and other leather products made by Marikina’s skilled craftsmen.
Organized by the Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office, its objective is to transform the shoe industry into a competitive force in the world market for the purpose of creating a financially sound environment for all stakeholders, by formulating strategies, plans, programs, regulatory and mitigating measures related to the development of the shoe industry.
Shoes and leather goods sold at the bazaar were at P200 to P3,000 price range.
Noel Box, officer-in-charge of Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office (MASIDO), said urged the public to patronize Marikina-made shoes and leather products. “I am urging the public to visit the Marikina Shoe bazaar and buy Marikina-made products. Let’s support our quality local products to boost our economy,” he said.
