MELBOURNE, Australia – Senator Richard Colbeck the Federal Sports Minister of Australia confirms that plans are being rolled out to get the Australian Olympic Team be vaccinated before going to the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
Amidst the COVID-19 Pandemic, the Tokyo Summer Olympics is slated to continue on 23 July 2021 to 8 August 2021.
In an article published in Canberra Times, the Sports Minister commented that “We have received advice from ATAGI (Australian Technical Advisory Group in Immunization) on a rollout plan, athletes fit within the plan and we’ll get to them,”
Following this report, other Olympic committees joined in the effort to vaccinate their athletes; Israel’s Olympic Committee had already vaccinated their Olympic delegation as reported on Reuters.
On the other hand, The International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach shared his concerns about athletes “jumping the queue” for receiving the COVID-19 vaccines.
