The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) was able to convert a COVID-19 isolation facility inside the Manuel L. Quezon University (MLQU) in Quiapo, Manila in the span of two (2) weeks.
DPWH Secretary and Isolation Czar Mark A. Villar said that the newly-completed MLQU facility was rushed to add 60 more bed units that will cater to the city’s COVID-19 cases.
Implemented by the DPWH National Capital Region Office, Director Ador G. Canlas said that the completed MLQU Isolation Facility also has one (1) radiology room, two (2) nurse stations, and four (4) comfort rooms – two (2) for medical personnel and two (2) for patients’ use.
“With the online learning system in place this school year, available school buildings are being tapped as converting existing buildings is one (1) of the fastest options to add more COVID-19 facilities, said Secretary Villar.
Secretary Villar added that the Department is continuously building and converting structures to ensure demands are met for healthcare facilities, to contain areas with COVID-19 spikes.
