Bill and Ted set out to finally write the song that will unite the world in the first trailer for Bill and Ted 3: Face the Music, which is set to open in theaters August 21st.
Bill & Ted Face the Music, directed by Dean Parisot and written by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon. It is the third film in the Bill & Ted franchise and a sequel to Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991). Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter reprise their roles as the title characters and William Sadler reprises his role as the Grim Reaper.
In the third instalment of this cult classic, time traveling duo Bill S. Preston, “Esquire” and “Ted” Theodore Logan, have landed in 2020 and they’re still doing, well, relatively nothing. The long-awaited film finds Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves reprising their roles as the titular time travelers, although now they’re stuck in the doldrums of middle age, and their band, Wyld Stallyns, is playing $2 taco night showcases instead of bringing the world together in rock & roll harmony.
In the trailer, a visitor from the future warns Bill and Ted that the stakes are now higher than ever, so — after a brief discussion on the nature of copyright law when it comes to time-traveling and stealing from one’s self — the duo jump back in their trusty phone booth and set out to track down their future selves and their life-altering song.
The trailer doesn’t offer too much in the way of plot points, but it does find Bill and Ted encountering some very muscular versions of themselves, and reuniting with their old foe and bandmate from Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey, Death (played by William Sadler). Bill and Ted 3 will also feature Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine as Bill and Ted’s respective daughters, Thea and Billie, who join their dads on their journey.
Brigette Lundy-Paine and Samara Weaving will appear as Ted’s daughter Billie Logan and Bill’s daughter Thea Preston, respectively. Kid Cudi was also announced as a cast member for the film, playing himself as he gets caught up in the events of the film. Anthony Carrigan was cast in June 2019 as Bill & Ted’s yet-named adversary in the film.
In 2019, it was announced that Amy Stoch will be returning as Missy, and Hal Landon, Jr. will be returning as Ted’s father, Captain Logan. Other casting announcements include recasts of characters from previous films, with Erinn Hayes as Elizabeth, Jayma Mays as Joanna, and Beck Bennet as Deacon, Ted’s younger brother. Among casting announcements in July 2019 include Jillian Bell as Dr. Taylor Wood, the family therapist to both Bill and Ted’s families, Holland Taylor as the Great Leader in the future San Dimas, and Kristen Schaal as Kelly, a messenger sent from the future for Bill & Ted.
Bill and Ted 3 is currently slated for release on August 21, 2020.
