The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) recently stated that smoking, which includes using e-cigarettes, will no longer be allowed in all Meralco facilities and premises. The order, effective March 1, is to strengthen further the company’s dedication to a healthier and more sustainable environment.
To accomplish this, Meralco placed signages around all of its properties including former designated smoking areas. Security personnel will be regularly inspecting the said areas a reinforced compliance check.
Meralco is even offering a smoking cessation program to any employee interested in quitting smoking. Said program is overseen by the company’s internal Corporate Wellness Center and its doctors.
Meralco CEO and president Ray Espinosa said that the smoking ban is being aligned with the company’s push for inclusivity and sustainability.
Meralco implementation of the smoking ban is in line with Executive Order No. 26 entitled Providing for the Establishment of Smoke-Free Environments in Public and Enclosed Places and Executive Order No. 106 prohibiting the use of vape and e-cigarettes in public.
