ING Bank Manila persists on continuing its Corporate Social Responsibility or CSR campaign. The aim of the CSR program is to produce “child leaders” from the impoverished Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila.
ING Bank chief finance officer Domingo Gavino stated that the ING Learning Center or ILC program started back when Gavino first joined the company back in 1994.
ING Child leaders in Baseco Compound receive weekly tutorials on math, English, and reading from ING employee volunteers.
Gavino revealed that he upgraded the ILC program by “getting ING employees engaged in the cause.” He said that ING would “pair each of its employees to a child leader” for “focused coaching and mentoring”.
The child leaders, in turn, would pay it forward by tutoring younger learners and by participating actively in village-based child welfare activities.
Aside from the teachings given by the ING staff, the ING child leaders also qualify for ING Bank’s full high school or college scholarships covering full tuition, book expenses, uniforms, transportation, and other allowances.
The ING scholarship program covers prestigious schools like the University of Sto. Tomas, Far Eastern University, Letran High School, Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and the University of the Philippines.
