Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724, “Epson”) announces that cumulative global sales of Epson’s high-capacity ink tank inkjet printers have reached 40 million units.
Epson has taken a bottom to top approach at launching the units, starting From Indonesia in October 2010 followed by neighboring developing countries, and using the growth as leverage to penetrate developed countries. By 2018, the high-capacity ink tank printers have established grounds in around 150 countries and regions with continuous growth per annum, securing the brand’s place in the high-capacity ink tank printer market for nine consecutive years.
In 2019, Epson plans to adjust its strategy to cater to a wider range of market segments with the goal of replacing lazer printers. By highlighting the competitive advantage of their units in terms of cost and environmental performance, as well as durability and fast operation.
Through these efforts, Epson plans to sell 10.2 million high-capacity ink tank printers in FY2019 – an increase of 13% compared to the previous fiscal year. This is expected to account for about 64% of total inkjet printer sales in Epson.
