Apposing male ambassadors for Korean beauty brands is more common than ever. This writer visited Korea last year and was very impressed with the beauty products being endorsed by male K-POP superstars, as seen in the many beauty stores in Korea.
Customers strolling though the Seoul shopping district of Myeongdong can attest that they are often lured in to stores by men endorsers of make-up and skin care lines rather than women counterparts. This practice may be a trailblazer a few years back. But today, it has become the norm, especially for Korean cosmetics and beauty brands.
The SAEM, one of the biggest beauty brands in Korea, has selected the 13-member K-pop group Seventeen as its global ambassadors to compete with other equally famous K-pop groups endorsing other brands. (Side note: This writer is still confused that a 13-member K-pop group calls themselves as Seventeen?)
Last year at Robinson’s Galleria during a meet and greet event organized by The SAEM, it was obvious that they made the right choice.
Filipino buyers were more obviously receptive to the brand and its line of products especially with its endorsers promoting them. K-Pop fans went gaga in the presence of Seventeen comprised of S. Coups, Woozi, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Hoshi, DK, Jeonghan, Dino, Seung-kwan, Vernon, Joshua, The8 and Jun.
The SAEM entered the global market last 2010 and the Philippines only in June 2018. But in a short period of time, it has already become a household name locally due to its affiliation with the K-pop group. From its flagship store in SM Aura, it has since opened seven other stores in different parts of the metropolis.
There is no way but expand for The SAEM as they continue to expand globally. Right now, the company has stores in Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Khazakstan, Russia and Mongolia. While in Korea, they have 500 stores.
The SAEM has a complete line of “eco-friendly” body, cleansing, and skin care products for both men and women in their teens to their late 40s. It also has and extensive make-up, pack and mask, and perfume line.
