The Avengers End Game fever continues as moviegoers continuously flock cinemas worldwide.
And the Marvel Cinematic Universe just became even more powerful with Endgame earning the title of second-highest grossing film of all time with a staggering $2 billion at the box office according to Variety. The hit Disney flick has now grossed $2.188 billion globally in its 11-day run, with another $145 million at the domestic box office during its second weekend in theaters. Endgame has earned $620million at the domestic box office in its short run, becoming the ninth biggest film in North America.
Worldwide, the Avenger’s flick has earned $1.56 billion, with $575 million coming in from China alone.
The blockbuster movie reached a global box office of $1.915billion by Friday, according to Deadline. The Avengers: Endgame is now one of five films to surpass the $2 billion marker, joining Avengers: Infinity War ($2.048billion), Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($2.048billion), Titanic ($2.187billion) and the highest grossing movie of all time worldwide, Avatar ($2.788billion). And with the current trend, it may not be impossible for this latest Avengers movie to break the box office record of Avatar.
The film, which stars Robert Downey Jr. as IronMan alongside another box office heroes like Chris Evans (Capt. America), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Mark Ruffalo (Incredible Hulk), and a slew of other actors of Marvel heroes, now sets its sight on having the highest-grossing second weekend in North American history.
The film became the No. 5 highest grossing global movie of all time, having surpassed Jurassic World and broke records to become the first film in history to surpass the $1billion mark in just its opening weekend, raking in an estimated $1.2billion.
With an estimated budget of $356 million, Endgame is one of the most expensive films ever made and saw the conclusion of the decade-long Infinity Saga – which documented Thanos’ plot to wipe out half of the universe’s living creatures. Endgame is the latter end of Marvel’s ‘Phase Three’, but the superhero giant shows no signs of slowing down just yet, with ‘Phase Four’ set to begin in 2020
The fourth phase is set to include the long-awaited Black Widow solo film, and sequels for Doctor Strange, Black Panther and Guardians of the Galaxy.
