Years of hard work of Hidilyn Diaz was paid off when she was awarded by the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) as the 2017 Athlete of the year last February 13, 2017.
“Last year, nandito din ako sa PSA, may award din ako. Sabi ko, next year, 2017, ako ang maging Athlete of the Year” Hidilyn said in her speech during the award’s night. She also added that “through God, nothing is impossible.”
Together with dedication, hard work and faith she alloted after setting her goal, Hidilyn finally did it and was able to put her name beside other Filipino athletes like Lydia de Vega, Manny Paquiao, Nonito Donaire, Efren “Bata” Reyes, Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno and many other respected athletes in the history.

Hidilyn Diaz is a Filipino weightlifter and an airwoman. On 2008, she competed in the 2008 Summer Olympics; the youngest among competitors in the women’s 58-kg division.
Last 2016, Hidilyn made a history by winning a silver medal in the women’s 53-kg weight division, ending the Philippines’ 20-year Olympic medal drought.
Together with her achievements and awards through the years in the weightlifting division, she just showed us a manifestion of strong women nowadays. Therefore Hidilyn Diaz can be considered as one of the Filipina role models in the country.
