July 21, 2016, Makati City – Newly appointed Tourism Secretary Wanda Corazon Tulfo-Teo, was the featured guest speaker at the general membership meeting and PR Forum of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) held last Thursday, July 21, at the Palm Grove, Amorsolo Tower, Rockwell Center in Makati.
Secretary Teo-Tulfo replaced Ramon Jimenez, Jr. She stated that under her term she will retain the present tourism slogan, “It’s More Fun in the Philippines“, because of the positive effects of the campaign as evidenced by an increase in tourist arrivals to the country.
No stranger to the tourism sector, she has been actively promoting Philippine tourism for more than two decades as a co-owner of the Mt. Apo Travel and Tours. She is also president of the National Association of Independent Travel Agencies (NAITAS) and a member of Davao Travel Agencies Association (DTAA), the Davao Association of Tour Operators (DATO) and the Davao Regional Tourism Council (DRTC).
“Change is here and we will do our role without delay and we will deliver.”
In her keynote speech, Secretary Teo-Tulfo called on the members of PRSP to help her department in promoting the country as a prime tourist destination.
“I asked you, the PR practitioners to help us out in sending the good news about our country and promote Philippine tourism. Your role as communicators will always be important. In the DOT, we wanted to highlight three points:1) desire of foreign and local tourists must be stimulated on what our country has to offer, 2) travellers must know how to reach the destination. With the latest technology and the help of social media, our tourist spots are being promoted all over the world, and 3) treat the tourists right. Filipinos are the most hospitable people in the world. We can utilize this positive trait of ours to attract more tourists.”
“Change is here and we will do our role without delay and we will deliver,” she added.
During the general membership meeting, the group also discussed matters pertaining to this year’s PR Congress, which will be held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Resorts World in Manila on Sep 22-23.
This year’s theme, Global Speak 2016, will showcase an array of foreign speakers and local thought leaders who will share their expertise in their respective fields. Ron Jabal, PRSP President talked about the 23rd PR Congress in an interview with MNLtoday.ph!
